Titus 00 TITUS Intro

Titus seemed to be Paul’s Gospel “Trouble Shooter”. Paul usually sent Titus into difficult situations and expected him to be able to work out the problem. Paul says that he left Titus in Crete to 1) set in order the things that are left undone and 2) to ordain elders in every city 1:5). Titus is not mentioned in Acts but he is mentioned a number of times in Paul’s epistles (especially II Cor. where he is mentioned 9 times).

The theme of Titus is “Walking Worthy of Grace” and stresses the need of right actions to go with right Beliefs. The problems in Crete seemed to come from 1) False Jewish Teachers who were using worthless talk and deceiving people (1:10, 14) and 2) The loose morals of the Cretan people (1:12,13 2:-) Paul instructs Titus on what kind of man to get as leaders of these people and how to exhort the people to live and walk right because of their calling.

Titus 01:16 DENYING THE DIVINE

Tit 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny [him], being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate

Deny Him in our:
Works
Words
Wealth
Walk
Why would we Deny Him?

Self Sufficiency: Pr 30:9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God

Fear of Men: Mt 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Mt 26:34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

Rebellion against God’s Rule: Lu 19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

Results of Denying Him: 2Ti 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

Titus 01:16 BELIEVERS BELIEFS

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate (Titus 1:16).

Why do we stress missions and reaching a lost world for Christ. When a person disobeys Gods final marching orders-(Matthew 28:19‑20) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. – he Disobeys Gods orders!

Most churches are more concerned with who they are losing than with who they are reaching. A pastor attracts people within 10 years of his age; and the head of your programs do the same thing.

1) Some believe a Lie- Sometimes when God gives us what we want; what we want is not what we want– (2 Thessalonians 2:11‑12) And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

These are those who walk down the Broad way of Man made Religions, Human Reasoning, and feel good Relationships.

Believing in a lesser “god” makes us lesser people: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (Romans 1:18-32).

2) Some believe with their lips but not with their life- (James 2:19‑20) Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Roadside in India

3) Some believe in Life (Christ) and THESE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO WILL NOT BE CONDEMNED- (John 3:36) He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

(Psalms 14:1) The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. Will you say, NO to God or will you Believe and be saved?

Titus 02:11-14 THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

One of the most disturbing things about Christianity today is the way people live it!

The Christian Life is like looking at a door. There are 2 sides to examine and each is vital to the other. Titus shows us both of these sides in today’s Scripture. Verse 15 from amplified Bible tells how we should live- Tell [them all] these things; Urge (advise. encourage. warn) and rebuke with full authority. Let no one despise or disregard or think little of you [conduct yourself and your teaching so as to command respect].

I. GOD’S SIDE vs 11

A> His Grace (unmerited Favor) Brings Salvation to the World. Man could not come to God until God came to man!! But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Rom 5:8) You can’t get good enough or smart enough or rich enough to be saved but you can accept God’s Free Gift.

B> His Love extends this Grace to all men “Appeared to all men”-

-rich, poor, bad “good”, etc– Nicodemus, woman at well, man lame at pool, Zachaius,
-Men with a tempter- Peter, John and James
-Old man- Nathaniel
-Religious people- Paul

II. MAN’S SIDE When we accept God’s Grace it teaches “trains” us to:

A> Leave the old world (Repentance in Action)

1. Ungodliness- anything against God’s plans for us. Sin is rebellion against God and His will.

2. Worldly Lusts- The Desires of and for the world (You can’t help the bird flying over your head but you can prevent him making a nest).

You change control of the direction of your life by yielding to the Holy Spirit’s control. We call it denying Self and taking up your cross.

B> Live right in this present world

1. Soberly- on the level, in control Self

2. Righteously- Doing Right Others

3. Godly- Example of Christ God

Life is not a script you follow but choices you make!

C) Look for a new world

1. The Blessed Hope- Wonderful expectation

2. Glorious Appearing-

3. Purified living- And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. (1 John 3:3)

Christ died to redeem and purify us. He’s coming back for a Peculiar, Holy People. Therefore we are “bubbling” with good works (Not to be saved but because we are saved) so that when he comes we won’t be found napping or slack on the job (Mark 13:32-37).

Are you willing today to trust in the Grace of God and show it by Leaving the World’s way, Living God’s Way, and Looking for His soon coming?? The Root is being Saved by Grace, The Fruit is being Taught by Grace, and the Harvest is for those Marked by Grace.

Is your Christianity a Life Transforming Faith or a Life Insurance Decision?

Titus 02:11-15 WHAT GRACE TEACHES

Grace is the Unmerited Favor of God that brings Salvation. If it’s that important then whatever it teaches must really be important.

It teaches we ought to:

I. LIVE RIGHT

A> Denying:

1. Ungodliness- Against God. Lack of Reverence to God, not considering God.

2. Worldly Lusts- Desire for things of this world.

B> Living:

1. Soberly- on the level, in control Self

2. Righteously- Doing Right Others

3. Godly- Following the Example of Christ God

“In this present world”- If you can’t be a Christians where you are then moving won’t help.

II. LOOK RIGHT

A> Blessed Hope- When things are bad; HE’S COMING!!
B> Glorious Appearing- Great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ

III. LOVE RIGHT He gave Himself for us.

A> To Redeem us- buy off the slave market
B> To Purify us- groom us as a son
C> A Peculiar People- Zealous (Eager and enthusiastic) of good works.

Titus 03:10 11 CONDEMNING YOURSELF

Job 9:20) If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

(Mat 12:37) For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

(John 3:17 19) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. {18} He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. {19} And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

(Rom 2:1) Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

(Rom 14:22) Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

(Titus 3:10 11) A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject; {11} Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.
